MBBS Canada appoints new president

The Board of MB Biblical Seminary Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Bruce Guenther as President of the seminary, effective February 1, 2012.

Board chair John Unger states, "We are extremely pleased. God has gifted Bruce with a sharp mind, an enthusiastic, personable nature and strong leadership abilities. We are confident his vision and drive will serve the seminary, the Canadian Conference of MB Churches (CCMBC) and our partner agencies very well in the years to come."

During his term as Interim President, Guenther renegotiated relationships with ACTS Seminaries and Canadian Mennonite University, strengthened partnerships with MB Mission and the Church Planting Network, and developed infrastructure for MBBS Canada. In January the Board enthusiastically accepted his Strategic Plan that will propel MBBS Canada into the future.

Dr. Guenther has a Master of Christian Studies degree from Regent College and a PhD (Canadian religious history) from McGill University. He has served at MBBS-ACTS as Associate Professor of Church History and Mennonite Studies since 1999.

As a Christian, he strives to support his role at the seminary by living a life characterized by integrity, honesty, joy, holiness, humility and faithfulness in Christian disciplines (worship, prayer and witness).

Bruce has been married to Lois since 1982; they have three children. For recreation and relaxation Bruce enjoys playing squash, coaching fast-pitch softball, riding motorcycle, watching movies and reading.

Willie Reimer, Executive Director of The Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches, responded to Guenther’s appointment with enthusiasm. “CCMBC celebrates the appointment of Dr. Bruce Guenther as president of MBBS Canada. Bruce brings a passion for graduate theological education as well as a love for the local church to his new role. I look forward to a very effective partnership with MBBS Canada and CCMBC in training pastoral leaders to reach Canada with the good news of Jesus Christ.”

Randy Friesen, General Director of MB Mission, writes, "The MB Mission family values our partnership with MBBS Canada and are encouraged by the appointment of Bruce Guenther as our new seminary president. Bruce brings a love for the mission of the church and the equipping of pastors and leaders to his work. His unique window on church history will help us learn from the past even as we look to the future in our mission work together!"

MB Biblical Seminary Canada educates and equips people who help lead the church in reaching Canada and the world with the good news of Jesus Christ.
